Tristan, a Drômois collecting balls at Roland Garros

Roland-Garros regains a little color this year after the edition postponed to September last year. This is the 120th edition of the tournament, and the second for Tristan Berge, a young Drômois.

Licensed from the Montélier tennis club, he was a little frustrated last year. So the 15 year old wanted to go back : “Serena Williams, I was supposed to pick her up (sic) last year, but she forfeited right before her game and so I was a little squeamish. But I hope I can get her this year.”

Tristan had to send a cover letter – it alone is enough after a first stint at Roland Garros – to be selected among 150 candidates. According to him, it was thanks to his discretion and his precision that he was taken back. “You have to see me as little as possible on the court. Then there is the roll to pass the balls between the collectors. It must be fast, discreet and precise so as not to interfere with the game, not to stand out. ”

And it’s sportier than it looks, Tristan assures that “at the start of the tournament, you may have aches”. You have to remember to stretch at night and take care of yourself. “For example, when you have to roll, you have to bend down well, especially me who am tall”, confides the teenager who measures 1m89, it is more than Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic. This will allow him to be placed in the baseline and therefore to have “a beautiful view of the exchange being played out”.

He will be in the front row, closer than the 5,000 spectators who will be in the stands. They will be five times more numerous than in the September edition.
