This Sunday, May 30 begins the Roland-Garros 2021 tournament. Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Naomi Osaka will be on the bridge from the first day of the competition.

This Sunday marks the launch of the 120th edition of the Roland-Garros tournament. This edition of the French Open looks promising with very good potential posters from the first laps. Hostilities start at 11 a.m. and will be followed on France Télévisions antennas (on France 3 from 11 a.m., then on France 4 from 11:45 a.m. and finally on France 2 from 2:55 p.m.), as well as on their site and on the Amazon Prime streaming platform.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal among the favorites

As every year, all eyes are on the favorites: Novak Djokovic, number 1 in the ATP ranking, often well placed, but only winning the trophy once in his career. And of course, Rafael Nadal, who already has 13 successes in this Grand Slam, and Roger Federer who is making an expected return.

For the French, the challenge of the tournament is to access the second week. All eyes will be on last year’s sensation Hugo Gaston, who stopped in the Round of 16 after eliminating Stan Wawrinka and leaving the end of the suspense against Dominic Thiem. The other French are also all coming out of a complicated season between injuries and poor performance. Benoît Paire even launched an appeal on social networks to ask for support.

On the men’s side, Dominic Thiem will be one of the first to play on the Philippe-Chatrier court, followed in the afternoon by Stefanos Tsitsipas entering the competition against the French Jérémy Chardy. On the Suzanne-Lenglen court, Alexander Zverev will face Oscar Otte, while Gilles Simon will meet Márton Fucsovics on the Simonne-Mathieu.

Among the ladies, the favorites are certainly Ashleigh Barty, winner in 2019 and withdrew last season, and the title holder Iga Swiatek. Naomi Osaka, holder of four Grand Slams, will of course play spoilers. French eyes will be fixed, as usual, on Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia and Alizé Cornet.

Naomi Osaka will inaugurate the Philippe-Chatrier court, followed by Victoria Azarenka. Petra Kvitová (seed number 11) will be on the Suzanne-Lenglen. The French Clara Burel for its part will be on the Simonne-Mathieu.
