The poster of the Gijoneses of Sporting, with THE NEW SPAIN

LA NUEVA ESPAÑA will deliver free to its readers this Sunday, May 30, a poster with the 64 people from Gijón who played at least one league game with Sporting, the team of their city and in which many of them began to give their first kicks to the ball. In the sheet, in addition to the name of each footballer and the seasons in which he played for the rojiblanco club, a reflection on his experience is included. Some phrases that were collected in the series “In the shadow of El Molinón”, published in the last few months in this newspaper. All of them have explicitly wanted to join this initiative to give support to the members of the first team in the face of the crucial game that they will play in El Molinón in three days against Almería and that could open the door of promotion to be promoted to First. A wish shared by tens of thousands of Asturians.

The poster includes legends of the club and players from the quarry who triumphed inside and outside Sporting. All with a common denominator: having been born and raised in Gijón. Among the protagonists are Luis Enrique, current Spanish coach; Abelardo, coach who achieved the last rojiblanco promotion; Juanele or Manjarín. There are veterans, like Medina, who wore the team’s jersey in the 1950s and 1960s; and others who still live professionally from soccer, such as Nacho Cases and Juan Muñiz.

Not a single one has wanted to fail, for two reasons. The first is to pay tribute to the now deceased Gijón people who also played for Sporting. And the second, to give encouragement to the current squad, where there are no less than seven footballers born in the city: Pablo Pérez, Borja López, Gragera, Guille Rosas, Gaspar, Pablo García, Pelayo García. The poster concentrates all that feeling. And the pride of those who have honored the name of Gijón.
