On March 1, 1931, a story was published in a small newspaper called “La Libertad”, in which interested personnel were requested to be part of a basketball team, news for which the address was attached to contact the organizers and thus create the Madrid F.C.

The team was created mainly to start the regional basketball championship, and this would be thanks to Ángel Cabrera, a Spaniard who had already practiced this sport in Argentina and who was the one who got permission from the board of directors of the Real Madrid, In order to use the name and thus create a basketball team with which to compete, Ángel was in charge of managing the first teams.

Cabrera also played and promoted the Federation of Castilla. One of the team’s first players was Segundo Braña, who in 1935 became the team’s first official coach. Today we can give thanks to the efforts of each one of them and to the entire training that they put all their effort and effort to achieve what they had proposed, to bring basketball to all Spanish homes.

Establishing a foothold in the world of basketball

Real Madrid Basketball competes for the first time in the Castilla Championship, getting its first title against Rayo Club de Madrid in the final of the championship in 1933. That same year a match between the Madrid and Lisbon teams would also be played. held in the Goya Bullring, which was attended by 140,000 spectators.

This place was used, because it must be remembered that in Spain basketball was practiced outdoors and with wooden boards, the first court as such was located on a site near the Chamartín stadium, although other venues were also used, such as, for example, that of the now defunct Frontón Recoletos in 1939.

Between 1942 and 1944, the RM basketball team won three consecutive Castile Championships, establishing itself as a benchmark for basketball in Spanish territory. In 1948, 1949, 1950, they repeated the feat of winning three more Castilian titles. Some of the members of the team were of other nationalities, including Puerto Rico, the Philippines or Peru.

In 1952, Raimundo Saporta came to the ranks of the team, a manager who contributed resources and his own identity and who together with others made the team shine in Spain and Europe. From then on we can say that there was already a consolidated team, always on the rise.

At present, in addition to enjoying the basketball matches of Real Madrid de Baloncesto, we can also find the possibility of participating in basketball promotions, which can affect us not only in fun and adrenaline, but in prizes. A simple and fun way to keep in touch with our teams and with our favorite sport, being able to bet on our favorite teams and their matches, whether for first-half, first-quarter or final results.

Finally, we must emphasize that the team is already ninety years old, it seems incredible that since it was played in dirt and ash fields without any protection, or equipment except the ball and the hoop, now there are icons to follow in the world whole, thanks to all those pioneers who put their tenacity, perseverance and personal sacrifice and paved the way forward. With tears and laughter, but without giving up their efforts, they raised a team from nothing and now they can boast of many victories.
