The finishing touch to more than half a century of basketball in Alginet

The first twenty years were of authentic survival and great growth of the club in players and teams of various age groups. With the entrance to the Municipal Pavilion, the first game was on December 8, 1989 against Alzira in Preferente, the growth of the club was meteoric. In 1993, with the recently created Escola Municipal de Bàsquet d’Alginet, the reception of a large number of children, allowed to have teams in all federative categories. In the 90s, CB Alginet was already listed in the Second Autonomous Region. These are years sponsored by Construcciones Peregrín or Restaurante San Patricio. He got his first promotion to First Autonomous Region with Pepe Bataller as coach. The following season it is relegated and in 95-96 it was promoted again.

José Luis Hernández led the team for the next seven seasons, highlighting the participation in the famous final phase of promotion (in those years to the Second National Division) of Carlet, although the promotion was renounced for economic reasons. Miguel Ángel Lladró coached the team in 2002-03 and won the Federation Trophy. This was followed by four seasons trained again by Pepe Bataller, always at the top of a difficult First Autonomous Region. In 2005-06 the official name was changed to Guillén CB Alginet and the final promotion phase was played, which was achieved despite the defeat against Sagunt.

A federative remodeling allowed the azulones to reach the EBA two seasons later. A period of five seasons was opened with Paco Martínez at the head of the bench, four of them in the EBA league and one that was voluntarily relegated to First National for economic reasons. However, in 2008-09 the Valencian League was won against Calpe and an absolute championship of the First National. In 2011, Gandia thwarted promotion to LEB Plata. During the following seasons, between Primera and EBA, the team also won the Federation Trophy (2014).

The successful cycle of José Canales

The 2017-18 season opened the José Antonio Canales cycle. Both the Valencian League and the title of First National were achieved and the consequent promotion to the EBA. After two magnificent seasons in this category, just over a week ago, and as Safir Fruits Alginet, he would conquer the most important achievement in the club’s history: promotion to the LEB Plata League. Paradoxically, the finishing touch for a team with more than half a century of life and successes. And those that, sure, still have to come.
