The crazy scenario where Kawhi lands in the Heat via a 7 player trade!

Arriving in 2019 in LA, Kawhi Leonard is unable to hoist the Clippers to the top of the league. The current course of his franchise does not improve things … The winger is potentially a free agent this summer, would a departure be possible? A pretty crazy scenario could send him to Florida. We take stock.

Among the favorites for the title this season, Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers are currently pale. Led 2-0 by Dallas, the Californians are on the verge of elimination, while they are still only in the first round of the playoffs … such a scenario would be catastrophic for the franchise, already the laughing stock of the league. last year after losing in the conference semifinals against the Nuggets.

Above all, this second year of the Fun Guy in LA would be marked by another failure. Champion in 2019 with Toronto, Kawhi then showed that he could lead a team to the end. The Angelino leaders had even gone so far as to bring Paul George from OKC, in order to support him. For the moment however, the moves carried out are not paying for any of the parties concerned.

On top of that, the 2021 offseason could prove to be a pivotal point for the double MVP of the Finals. He thus comes to the end of the second year of his 2 + 1 contract, signed in 2019. The 2021-22 season is in the form of a player option, which means that Leonard can easily decline it in order to test the market. .

Among the most frequently mentioned destinations in his case, we find Miami in particular. Rumors about a possible arrival of the ex-Spur in South Beach have only been swelling for some time, a famous NBA analyst who even reiterated the idea recently. Between the local environment and the ambitions of the franchise, Kawhi would in any case have something to be tempted by the Heat.

If such an interest were to be confirmed, however, the Clippers should not be forgotten. Indeed, the latter will certainly refuse to let their franchise player slip away for nothing. In the event that Kawhi decides to leave for Florida, we could therefore witness an absolutely monstrous sign-and-trade between the two teams, in the manner of what was done for Kevin Durant and D’Angelo Russell there at 2 years:

  • The Heat receives: Kawhi Leonard
  • The Clippers receive: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Kendrick Nunn, Precious Achiuwa, un first round pick 2022 et un second round pick 2024
Fadeaway World

The interesting point here is that the fit is possible in terms of salaries. Between Robinson who can claim 20 million per year this summer according to Adrian Wojnarowski, a Kendrick Nunn at nearly 5 million next season via his qualifying offer as well as Herro and Achiuwa at 2.5 million each, we hit the $ 30 million mark over one year. Leonard, who already has nearly 170 million in career earnings, could be tempted at that price, even if he could get more elsewhere.

In Miami, he would notably train with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo an absolutely terrifying trio, especially on the defensive side. Attacking on the wings would then be a never-ending nightmare for any NBA franchise, with Buckets and The Klaw being some of the best in the league at their posts. At the same time, Miami would almost automatically become a favorite for the title, even if the squad would lose a good part of its rotation there.

The latter, it is LA who would recover it. Paul George now in charge, coach Tyronn Lue could then count on a fairly promising bench. With the big shooters Herro and Robinson in particular on the wings, the Clipp’s would gain in versatility in scoring, distributing the shots previously given to Kawhi between several men. What form an attack less predictable than that of this season.

Lots of theories, and ultimately not enough information about Kawhi Leonard’s future. What is certain, however, is that the Clippers would do better not to get out of the game in these playoffs. Otherwise, it could well give their franchise player some initial desires… and at the present time, it is indeed the Heat who would hold the rope…
