The Spanish tennis players Carlos Alcaraz, Carlos Taberner, Bernabé Zapata, Mario Vilela and Lara Arruabarrena will play their respective main teams at Roland Garros, the second ‘Grand Slam’ that begins this next Sunday, after overcoming the preliminary phase.
Alcaraz, 18, will make his debut on the Parisian red clay after signing a high-level preliminary where he did not lose any set and only gave up eleven games against the Slovakian Lucas Lacko, the Italian Andrea Pellegrino and the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo. It will be his second ‘big’ after this year’s Australian Open where he made it through the first round.
Next to him, Bernabé Zapata will also make his debut, who will play his first ‘Grand Slam’ in Paris after going from less to more in the previous one, while another that will debut, after two Australian Opens, at Roland Garros will be Mario Vilella, who he had to overcome the German Peter Gojowczyk in his last matches. Carlos Taberner will play the French Open for the second time after doing so in 2018 and falling into his debut by standing up to Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
For her part, in the women’s team, Lara Arruabarrena will join Garbiñe Muguruza, Paula Badosa, Sara Sorribes and Carla Suárez. The Gipuzkoan, who played in Paris for the last time in 2018, sealed her pass after beating Canadian Carol Zhao 6-4, 6-2.
