Pitcher Shane Bieber was sparkling at the mound for the Cleveland Indians who defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-2.

Bieber (5-3) had a scoreless game until the seventh inning. He finished the game with 12 strikeouts in seven innings.

Jonathan Schoop started the seventh inning with a two-run homerun to shatter Bieber’s dream, who was taken out of the game after 103 games.

Eddie Rosario hit a home run for the Indians and he helped manager Terry Francona’s 700th victory at the helm of the Indians. Only Lou Boudreau (728) and Mike Hargrove (721) have done better than him in club history.

Matthew Boyd (2-6) gave up four runs on six hits in five innings for the Tigers, who have lost five of their last six games.

Bieber was looking to become the seventh pitcher in Major League Baseball this season to pitch a game without a point or a hit, which would have been a high since 1900. It would only have been one game to match the record set in 1884. It would also have been a scoreless first game for the Indians since Len Barker’s perfect game on May 15, 1981.

Cleveland has the longest streak without any scoring or hitting game in Major League Baseball. The Indians, however, suffered two “no-no’s” this season, those of Carlos Rodon of the Chicago White Sox and Wade Miley of the Cincinnati Reds.
