Sophie Witt and Rudy Schneider are Düsseldorf’s junior athletes of the year 2020

The Pro Sport Düsseldorf Foundation has announced the Düsseldorf junior athletes of the year 2020. The first places in the award went to the golfer Sophie Witt and the beach volleyball player Rudy Schneider.

Sophie Witt from Golf Club Hubbelrath e. V. became European team champion in 2020 for girls and German champion in singles in age group 18. Beach volleyball player Rudy Schneider from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf was third in 2020 at the U22 European championship and fifth in the men’s German beach volleyball championship.

The official honor in the town hall by the Lord Mayor Dr. Stephan Keller and Dirk Lindner, 1st chairman of the Pro Sport Düsseldorf Foundation, has been postponed due to corona and will be made up for.

The honored athletes receive financial support from the Pro Sport Foundation with the support of the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf in the form of a one-year scholarship. The funding amounts to 1,500 euros each for the first place and 500 euros each for the second place. A total of seven active participants were awarded 2nd place in 2020. Third places were not awarded in 2020. By accepting the award, the athletes undertake to comply with the applicable anti-doping regulations and to exercise their national right to start next year for a Düsseldorf sports club.

Sophie Witt (1st place, female)
The golfer Sophie Witt from Golf Club Hubbelrath e. V. became European team champion in the girls’ category in 2020 and German individual champion in the age group 18. As an NK1 athlete, she is a member of the National Golf Team Germany of the German Golf Association.

Rudy Schneider (1st place, male)
Beach volleyball player Rudy Schneider from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf was third in the U22 European Championship in 2020 and fifth in the German men’s beach volleyball championship. He is a member of the perspective squad of the German Volleyball Association.

Katharina Löb (2nd place, female)
The judoka Katharina Löb from the judo sports club Düsseldorf won the title at the German U21 individual championships in Frankfurt an der Oder in 2020.

Jule Mantsch (2nd place, female)
The beach volleyball player from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf became German U18 champion in 2020 and took part in the U18 European championship. She is a member of the federal junior squad NK2 of the German Volleyball Association.

Paula Schürholz (2nd place, female)
Beach volleyball player Paula Schürholz from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf became German U20 champion in 2020 and came 9th at the U18 European Championships in 2019. She is a member of the national youth squad NK1 of the German Volleyball Association.

Alvar Adler (2nd place, male)
The track and field athlete from ART Düsseldorf became German champion in the nine fight in 2020 in the M14 age group.

Niklas Held (2nd place, male)
Beach volleyball player Niklas Held from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf is a member of the NK1 national youth team of the German Volleyball Association. He is with his partner Max Lübbert “German Beach Volleyball Champion” of the male youth U20 and reached the 3rd place in the male youth U19.

Gregory Minouè (2nd place, male)
Hurdle sprinter Gregory Minoué from TV Angermund became German indoor youth champion in the U20 over 60m hurdles and German outdoor youth champion in the U20 over 110m hurdles in 2020. He is a member of the NK1 federal junior squad of the German Athletics Association.

Max Lübbert (2nd place, male)
Beach volleyball player Max Lübbert from DJK TuSA 06 Düsseldorf is a member of the extended national team of the “German Volleyball Youth”. Together with his partner Niklas Held, he is the German beach volleyball champion of the male youth U20 and reached 3rd place in the male youth U19.
