Ruvalcaba and Ávila add points towards the Tokyo Paralympics – El Occidental

The representative of Paralympic judo, Eduardo Ávila hung the bronze medal in the -81 kilogram category at the Judo Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan, which was his penultimate qualifying event for the Paralympic Games, where he wants to be triple Paralympic medalist.

“It was an acceptable result, not the best, but we got a medal and that was the goal, to climb further in the ranking,” said Ávila.

With this result, he continues to fight for a place in Tokyo, but that would be achieved in the Warwick Grand Prix, which will be held in June in Great Britain, the last event in which points can be added for the ranking.

In case you didn’t read it:

“I had four fights, I won the first against Brazil and the second against Great Britain, I lost to Uzbekistan and I defeated Kazakhstan in the playoffs, it was a good result after being stopped for so long and with so many obstacles that have arisen, it was possible and we still can. and we have to do something better ”.

For her part, the Paralympic Games champion in Rio 2016, Lenia Ruvalcaba, passed bye in the first round of the -70 Kg category and in the second match she defeated Raziye Ulucam of Turkey, in the third match she fell to Azerbaijan and in the Repechage lost against Georgia, which also managed to add points to the ranking towards Tokyo 2020.

“It didn’t go well for me, I was in fifth, I felt out of rhythm, but we keep scoring points and that’s what can be redeemed,” said Lenia.

After their participation, both champions return to Mexico to continue their preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
