Roland-Garros 2021: Federer will play his first round on Monday, Nadal and Djokovic will start their tournament on Tuesday

They may well be grouped in the same half of the table, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will not all enter the stage at Roland Garros on the same day. Like every year, the 1st round takes place over three days. And after the launch of the tournament this Sunday (“Sunday start”), some matches of this famous high part will take place from this Monday.

The organization has already unveiled them and Roger Federer is among the elected officials, along with four French people: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Mathias Bourgue, Arthur Rinderknech (against Marin Cilic) and Pierre-Hugues Herbert (against Jannik Sinner).

Gasquet, Gaston and Monfils will play on Tuesday

The Swiss will therefore try to win their first Grand Slam match in a year and a half at the 2020 Australian Open against the Uzbek qualifier Denis Istomin. For their part, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will wait one more day to launch respectively against Alexei Popyrin and Tennys Sandgren. The 100% French duel between Richard Gasquet and Hugo Gaston will also take place on Tuesday, as will the entry into contention of Gaël Monfils.

Note that on the women’s singles side, defending champion Iga Swiatek will also play her first round on Monday against Kaja Juvan, just like Garbine Muguruza against Marta Kostyuk and Sofai Kenin, opposed to Jelena Ostapenko. Also in this upper part of the table, Ashleigh Barty, she will start on Tuesday.
