Riot at Kottbusser Tor: Police officers injured in riots in Berlin-Kreuzberg – Berlin

On the night of Saturday there were serious riots at Kottbusser Tor in Berlin-Kreuzberg – over 50 violent people were involved. When an 18-year-old was arrested, police officers were thrown with bottles, injuring several people, including police officers.

Before that, the officers became aware of a fight between the 18-year-old and another man in Adalbertsrasse at around 1 a.m. While the facts were being clarified, the man stormed towards his adversary, but was stopped by a police officer and brought to the ground.

The police said the officers could only stop him by force. After his arrest, he kicked one policeman in the face and another in the head.

While the emergency services tried to tie the man who was kicking and beating on the ground, bottles from a group of around 50 were thrown at the officers.

One policeman was hit in the thigh and slightly injured. Since the group continued to press the police and bottles were still flying in the direction of the emergency services, irritant gas was sprayed. The group then broke up.

The 18-year-old suffered bruises on his head when he was arrested and had to be treated on an outpatient basis in a clinic. After his identity was clarified, he was released again. He is now being investigated for the assault and bodily harm. (Tsp, dpa)
