Quartararo prevails in Mugello

The French Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) won the MotoGP race of Italian Grand Prix, this Sunday in Mugello, achieving his third win of this season to increase his advantage in the general classification of the World Cup.

Quartararo dedicated the victory to the Swiss Jason Dupasquier, the 19-year-old Swiss rider died this Sunday after suffering an accident in the Moto3 qualifying session on Saturday. On his helmet, the French rider wore the name and number of his “friend” and carried a Swiss flag instead of his country as he got off the bike and headed for the podium.

Along with Quartararo, the Portuguese were on that podium Miguel Oliveira (KTM), second, and Spanish Joan Mir (Suzuki), current champion of the premier class and who finished third in this race.

The French Johann Zarco (Ducati-Pramac), who was second until lap 16, was fourth in the race, saving the furniture despite the damage to the back of his seat after a collision with the Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati-Avintia) during the lap heating. Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), who finished second overall, had a bad day at Mugello and quit after crashing on the second lap, when he was leading. It was then the ‘Diablo’ Quartararo who took the controls, with two laps of struggle for Zarco, before gradually increasing his advantage.

In the general, Quartararo now has 24 points ahead of the second, who is his compatriot Zarco, while Bagnaia falls to third place, now 26 points behind the head.

South African Brad Binder (KTM) was fifth. He was followed in the classification by Australian Jack Miller (Ducati), Spaniard Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), also Spanish Maverick Viñales (Yamaha), Italian Danilo Petrucci (KTM-Tech3) and his compatriot and national hero, veteran Valentino Rossi (Yamaha-SRT).
