Sagan has set his sights on the purple points jersey in this Giro and that became particularly clear today. The Slovak did not feel like losing points in a bunch sprint and was therefore interested in a scenario in which a large group of escapees could absorb all points.
To make that scenario come true, Sagan used his status in the pack today. Riders who still wanted to ride to the leading group were put in their place and in the end he reached an agreement with Cofidis rider Sabatini. The rest of the peloton is no longer allowed to drive today.
This behavior received little sympathy from the jury. He was fined 1,000 Swiss francs and loses 50 UCI points. The jury describes it as “intimidation and inappropriate behavior towards other riders”.
