The national team gathers in Seefeld / Austria to start preparing for the European Championship. At lunchtime, the once sorted out Müller and Hummels also joined them. Their appearance was as if they had never been gone.

Ahen the weekend tourists started their bike tours, the EM mission began for the stars. On Friday afternoon Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels returned to the national team, the former world champions arrived in the sunshine at the training camp of the German selection in Seefeld. They moved into their rooms in the Nidum Hotel in the Mösern district, from where they have a wonderful view of the valley and the mountains. The business trip to Austria started off pleasantly.

Borussia Dortmund’s defender Hummels was brought in a limousine by the driver service of the German Football Association (DFB). FC Bayern’s Müller followed a few minutes later with his club colleague and captain Manuel Neuer in a minibus. Most of the EM players also arrived at noon, the team bus drove up.

No trace of irritation

Müller was in a good mood, laughed and posted a picture of himself on Instagram. “Let’s start a new chapter,” he wrote under the photo. Two years ago, national coach Joachim Löw had booted him, Hummels and Jérôme Boateng. But the two returnees now acted as if nothing had ever happened. No trace of the irritations of yore. Their appearance was as if they had never been gone.

With the exception of defender Boateng, who is currently on vacation in Ibiza, the veterans are all back now, with the other players they are preparing for the trans-European tournament in Tyrol until June 6th. Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea FC and Ilkay Gündogan from Manchester City will play the Champions League final in Porto on Saturday and will then come to Tyrol.

The national team’s first training session in the Alps was scheduled for late Friday afternoon. “The training camp is an important key to the tournament,” said Löw, who will stop as national coach after the European Championships after 15 years. His successor is Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick, most recently at FC Bayern. The first European Championship group game of the Löw selection against world champions France will take place on June 15 in Munich. The other opponents are Portugal (June 19) and Hungary (June 23).
