Nacional loses in Chile and is out of the Copa Libertadores

Colombia was left without representatives in the Copa Libertadores. Atlético Nacional joined the eliminations of Santa Fe, América de Cali and Junior after losing 2-0 while visiting the Universidad Católica in San Carlos de Apoquindo at the close of the group stage of the most important club tournament in South America.

The ninth minute of the first half passed when the opening of the scoreboard came through the still ball. Corner kick charged by Marcelino Nuñez, deconcentration of Nacional in the brands and Luciano Aued appeared free at the penalty spot to head and beat Aldair Quintana.

National, possession without significance and suffering behind

With 1-0 on the scoreboard, the visitor began to take possession of the ball and look for offensive societies, as at minute 15, when a collective action ended with a right hand from Neyder Moreno that Sebastián Pérez saved. Verdolaga tried it with another mid-distance shot by Andrés Andrade and an acrobatic definition by Jarlan Barrera, but None of these plays generated a greater complication for the goalkeeper of the Catholic.

The Chilean club withdrew, gave up possession of the ball and opted for some counterattack, but every time it approached the rival area it generated danger over the goal of Quintana, who avoided the second after a crossed shot by Diego Valencia and in another action in which Geisson Perea and Emanuel Olivera got in the way, leaving the ball served to Edson Puch, that he could not specify in front of the ‘1’.

The advantage could be wider at halftime, but Yerson Candelo saved on the line after a header and the continuation of the play, Aued took a low shot that went very close to the post of Aldair’s left hand.

Quintana kept a team without effectiveness in the game

The dynamics in the complement remained similar to that of the first half, with a Nacional dominating the ball, seeking a draw without much clarity in the last quarter of the court and having a bad time in defense. Baldomero Perlaza was about to capitalize on an error by Pérez, that rebounded after a shot from Moreno, but Erwin Ampuero arrived first to send it to the corner kick.

Moreno himself had another option with a low turn and shot that the Chilean goalkeeper controlled without problems, while on the other side the doubts of the defenders continued and Aldair kept his team in play with a quick exit to avoid with his body what was Puch’s second.

Valencia liquidated Nacional

The local forgave in several actions, but on 79 ‘he capitalized on the lack of aggressiveness of Nacional’s defenders. Clemente Montes’ ball for Valencia, who started enabled and defined with a powerful right hand in the middle of Aldair’s legs. Minutes later, the scoreboard could go on to be thrashed with an air shot from Montes that went near the angle.

With the victory of Nacional de Montevideo over Argentinos Juniors, the green Antioqueño said goodbye to international competitions for the remainder of 2021, since finished last in Group F with 5 points, while the Uruguayan club will be in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana by occupying the third place in the area.
