NAC rioters interfere with CPR: ‘I jumped in between’

A resident of Breda who resuscitated another man during the riots at the Rat Verlegh Stadium of NAC Breda, saw how rioters got involved. “I understand the disappointment, but don’t bother rescuers,” he told Omroep Brabant. He does not want to be mentioned by name, his name is known to the editors.

The resident of Breda cycled home after the game and passed the stadium. He watched the game with some friends in town. He sees a man lying there who is already being resuscitated by someone else.

He has been an emergency response worker for about fifteen years: “Without thinking about it, I threw my bicycle aside and went to help.”

Chaotic
The situation was already chaotic then. A police helicopter circled overhead and it was restless around them. That won’t get any better if the fire brigade takes over the resuscitation. “At that moment rioters got involved.” It enrages the people of Breda.

“I jumped in and tried to calm them down.” When he sees the boy he was doing CPR with, the discharge came too. He is very disappointed that a small part misbehaves like this.

‘I didn’t have a good night’
When the ambulance arrived, the fire brigade handed over the resuscitation to the caregivers. The man who became unwell was taken to hospital.

The inhabitants of Breda do not know how the man is doing. He himself did not have a very good night. “When I woke up, I saw images again.”

Mouth to mouth
“A day earlier I cycled with my girlfriend at about that spot and we talked about CPR. Should we give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation during corona?”

He could not have imagined at the time that it would be necessary in the same place a day later. He didn’t think about it then either. “It was no longer in my head when I saw that man lying there.”
