Los Angeles (USA), May 30 (EFE) .- Marc Gasol, who played his best game in the playoff this Sunday in the loss of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Phoenix Suns (92-100), assured that the Los Angeles team has plenty of resources to solve an eventual absence of Anthony Davis due to injury in the next games.
“We have a lot of confidence in the players we have on the bench. We have very good players, of a lot of quality and experience,” he defended at the post-match press conference.
The Suns stormed Los Angeles (USA) and equaled their series 2-2 against the Lakers, who showed a very poor performance in attack and also lost Davis through injury.
The pivot was already dragging knee discomfort and it was doubtful until the last minute, but after playing the first two quarters he did not return in the second half due to groin problems.
For now, it is not known if he will be available for the fifth game of the tie, which will be played on Tuesday in Phoenix (USA).
In the absence of Davis, Gasol took a step forward and became the main reference of the inside game of the purple and gold.
The Spanish, who demonstrated intelligence and know-how both in attack and defense, achieved 12 points (4 of 6 in shots, 3 of 5 in triples), 8 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists, 3 blocks and a steal against a loss in 23 minutes.
After the defeat, Gasol commented that what “worries” the Lakers right now is “the group mentality” to impose their will on some Suns who are offering great resistance to the current NBA champions.
“How we control the game on a physical level, at the level of playing, the tempos … And be patient,” he exemplified.
Gasol said that sometimes the team can “overreact” when their rival controls the game, but noted that in those moments the Lakers cannot “stop fighting.”
Finally, the pivot urged his team to continue with the same plan, to improve ball circulation and communication between the players, and to overcome a possible absence of Davis if it turns out that his injury will take him away from the courts for the next duel against the Suns.
“We are very confident that we have enough (on the roster) to win without Anthony Davis. That’s not even a question for anyone in the locker room,” he said. EFE
