The 36-year-old will be responsible for scouting there under the new sports director Rouven Schröder. Sky had first reported Schalke’s interest in Hechelmann. Now his previous employer, Mainz 05, has apparently given his okay and lets Hechelmann move to Gelsenkirchen.

Hechelmann came to Rheinhessen in 2011, well before Schröder, and initially worked there in finance. From summer 2016 he made his first experiences in the sporting field as team manager of the U 23 of the FSV, who were then competing in the 3rd division. From 2018 he worked as the right-hand man of ex-sports director Schröder and was responsible for scouting from autumn 2019. Hechelmann is particularly well-connected in France and the Benelux countries. Now Schröder brings him as a confidante to FC Schalke in order to tackle the resurgence project. The official confirmation should follow soon.

Does Müller move to Stuttgart?

Speculations about another departure in Mainz are still persistent, but from the squad: Florian Müller is to inherit Gregor Kobel at VfB Stuttgart, whose move to BVB is well advanced. “I cannot rule out that we will comply with Flo Müller’s request for a change if the framework conditions are right,” Christian Heidel had recently explained in an interview with kicker. The sports director had pointed out that the club had three goalkeepers with Bundesliga format in the squad with Robin Zentner, Finn Dahmen and returnee Müller on loan and one of the trio would have to go into the stands. A luxury problem. However, according to kicker information, there is still no agreement between Mainz 05 and VfB in the Müller matter – but since all three parties are very interested in the transfer coming about, it could go very quickly.
