Latvian 3×3 basketball team wins fourth victory in Olympic qualification tournament and enters the quarterfinals

Latvia – Agnis Čavars, Edgars Krūmiņš, Kārlis Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis -, who was placed with the fifth number in the tournament, defeated Croatia in the Group D match with 21:18 (12th).

Lasmanis scored eight points in eight out of ten single-point shots. Six points and four rebounds for Chavar, five points, four rebounds and seven assists for Miezis, but Krūmiņš scored two points by winning six rebounds.

In the ranks of opponents, Luka Petrašičs scored eight points and won eight balls under the baskets, while Ivan Rašetina scored seven points and five rebounds.

In the last game of the group with 21:16 managed to beat Canada, taking the first place in the group.

After a similar start, Latvia took the lead with 11: 5. Opponents scored four unanswered points, but the Latvian team immediately increased the result difference, and Krūmiņš threw the last basket with a long half-throw, despite the violation of Jordan Jensen-White – 21:16. There was no longer a need to take a free throw.

Chavars scored six points, who also had five rebounds, Lasmanis and Miezis, but three points and six rebounds for the author of the basket Krūmiņš.

Alex Johnson and Steve Sir, who also had five rebounds, scored five points for their opponents.

In Group D, Austria conceded to the Netherlands with 15:17, but defeated Canada with 19:16. In the last match of the group, the Netherlands beat Croatia with 22:16.

Latvia won Group D with four successes in four games. Among the three teams, with a balance of 2-2, the Netherlands took second place and qualified for the quarterfinals. Canada came in third, Austria fourth, but Croatia remained without victories.

In the quarterfinals, Latvia will compete with Lithuania, which is seeded with the seventh number in the tournament.

The following teams will meet in other pairs of the quarterfinals on Sunday: Poland – Slovenia, USA – Netherlands, France – Brazil.

The Latvian basketball team arrived in Graz on Monday, where the Olympic qualifying tournament with 20 teams will take place.

The Latvian national team started the tournament successfully, winning the Austrian home team in the first match with 21:14, and then the Netherlands defeated with 21:17.

The playoffs are scheduled for Sunday.

The tournament takes place in two stages. First, the competition is held in four groups of five teams, each of the two best teams qualifying for the playoffs.

If the Latvian team fails to enter the top three, Latvians will have another chance to attend the Tokyo Olympics – the last ticket to Tokyo will be won from June 4 to 6 in the Hungarian city of Debrecen, where national teams from six countries will play: Hungary, Mongolia, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Latvia and Poland.

If any of these teams have already won a ticket to the Olympic qualifying tournament in India, one or more of the reservists will take their place – Belgium, Ukraine, Romania.

The place in the Olympic tournament is already guaranteed for the three countries that occupy the highest places in the FIBA ​​ranking table, taking into account the sum of the individual ranking points of the 50 best players of each country – Serbia, Russia and China, as well as the host country Japan.
