Junior drew with Santa Fe and went from Copa Libertadores to South American

Junior from Barranquilla it equaled 0-0 with the ‘cardinal’ team in a match valid for the last date of group D and staged in Ambato, Ecuador, because the violence derived from the national strike does not allow there to be professional football in Colombia.

With this result, the ‘currambero’ cast was third in the standings and missed the opportunity to pass the next phase of the Liberators cup.

The Barranquilla players only had to win to qualify, because if they did they would surpass River Plate from Argentina in the table, which in the other match fell 1-3 at home to Fluminense from Brazil.

Among the options wasted by the junior squad were 3 shots against the sticks, a save by the goalkeeper and 2 balls taken off the line by defenders of Independent Santa Fe, set that finished last.

Group D was like this:
1. Fluminense (BRA): 11 points (classified)
2. River Plate (ARG): 9 (classified)
3. Junior (COL): 7 (to South American)
4. Santa Fe (COL): 3 (eliminated)

The eleventh atlanticean will now contest the South American Cup for having finished in third place in his home run, as he could not beat Santa Fe to continue in Libertadores.

To a large extent, the sticks prevented the ‘shark’ triumph, as can be seen in the following video, in which the shot to the crossbar from a free kick taken by goalkeeper Sebastián Viera:
