Judo: Tunisian African team champion, Morocco bronze

The Tunisian judo team took the first step of the podium during the 42 “mixed team” events.e Senior African Championships, closed last Sunday at the Dakar Arena (Senegal). Host country of this match, Senegal arrives on 2e instead, followed by Morocco. Algeria, meanwhile, were happy with fourth place in the mixed team events.

Already crowned African champion in the individual events, before reaching the final, Tunisia logically dominated Senegal, host country of these 42e Senior African Championships, with 14 medals (5 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze), for Morocco with 9 medals (4 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze).

The Algerian selection was satisfied with fourth place in the “mixed” events and third place in the individual events, with 12 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze). Egypt is 4 years olde with 4 medals, including 1 gold and DR Congo (5e) with 1 gold medal.

More than 200 judokas from more than thirty African countries participated in these 42 from May 20 to 23e African Judo Championships. Morocco was represented there by a selection of 18 judokas, men and women, of different categories. These qualifications for the next Olympic Games in Tokyo took place at the Dakar Arena sports complex in Diamniadio, about thirty kilometers from the Senegalese capital.

On the sidelines of these championships, the African Judo Union elected last Tuesday its new executive committee chaired by Madagascan Thierry Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko, and composed of Kenyan Shadrack Maluki (President), Botswana Estony Pridgeon (Secretary General) and the President of the Royal Moroccan Judo Federation, Chafik Elkettani Elhamidi as General Treasurer.
