As part of our partnership, the Rennbahnklinik is documenting the rehabilitation of our athlete Otto-krister Imala step by step and thus enables a precise insight: Part 1: Big goal Olympia 2020 – Otto Imala on his way back! ???????????? Throwing the European judo champion onto the mats – this is the moment many young judokas dream of. Otto Imala achieved this at this year’s Judo Grand Slam in Düsseldorf. For eight minutes he demands everything from reigning European champion Toma Nikoforov (BEL) – and wins. Only a few moments later, however, the shock diagnosis: cruciate ligament tear. The torsional and leverage forces must have been so high that the cruciate ligament in the right knee tore during the victory throw. A few days later, the successful operation in the racetrack clinic. Joy and sorrow are very close to one another in sport. Otto Imala tries to take the positive out of the situation: Setbacks are the harbingers of great success. ???????????? Today, 12 weeks after the operation, Otto enters the Rennbahnklinik in a good mood for his rounds in physiotherapy and the doctor. The program includes tests to evaluate the rehabilitation process. The Y-balance test, the balance squat and the balance front hop represent the first stage of the “return-to-play algorithm”. Using quantitative and qualitative criteria, the one-legged stance, the one-legged squat and the one-legged jump in the sagittal plane be assessed. The positive assessment of these functional forms of movement is a basic requirement for planning and training control of the subsequent therapy steps. ????️‍♂️????️‍♂️????️‍♂️ It looks like the next steps can be taken. Otto: “Now I am happy to finally put more weight on my legs and to be able to increase the weight again in leg training!” – this is a positive attitude. ???????????? Keep it up, Otto! We stay on the ball. ___ Otto-krister Imala Ju-Jitsu & Judo Club Brugg Swiss Judo & Ju-Jitsu
