Assistant to the Lakers for two years, Jason Kidd wants to find the place of head coach of an NBA team in the coming months. The experience as number 2 has allowed him to learn and improve, but now is the time to put it all into practice.

A coach never completely loses sight of his destiny. Jason Kidd is the perfect example. Arrived in the suitcases of Frank Vogel as a deputy from the start of his adventure with the Lakers, at the start of the 2019-2020 season, J-Kidd remains above all driven by the desire to be at the head of an NBA group. In the race for a coronation in back-to-back with the Angelinos, the 48-year-old former point guard could no longer be part of the Californian staff next season. For good reason, as he revealed during a long interview with Marc J. Spears of the media The Undefeated, the desire to find the most popular place on a bench has become too strong.

« I hope I am close to it. I would love to have another opportunity to do so. Being here with Frank (Vogel), understanding his strengths, observing him and seeing how he handles different situations, is a big key that I learned. Patience and communication are really essential to understand each other’s place. Not just from your best players, but from the end of the bench as well. »

Introduced to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, the leader with nineteen seasons in the NBA had started his conversion by leading the Nets of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in 2013, concluding the season with a record of 44 wins and 38 losses. After trying to increase his power within the New York franchise, Kidd had managed to negotiate his departure from the Bucks. He will spend nearly four years in Milwaukee (between 2014 and 2018), developing a strong relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo as he grows in power. More and more criticized, the one who was a specialist in the triple-double during his passage on the floors will finally be dismissed during the 2017-2018 season, leaving after 139 successes and 152 losses. Writing a new page in his coaching history is itching now.

After having benefited from the experience of Frank Vogel and his management of the group of stars of the Lakers for two years, Jason Kidd wants to relish the specificity of the position of head coach in the NBA. As expected, the former point guard appreciating the fact of being put in the spotlight and being able to benefit from heavy responsibilities. The coach market nevertheless seems very busy, it remains to be seen if a possibility will arise this offseason.
