Interview with Horacio Masino • Diario Democracia

Horacio Masino, president of the Argentine Athletic club, he told Democracy that the entity is about to carry out a building project in the alternative gymnasium. This said: “The idea is to modify the alternative gym that we have. We are working with an architect, who is preparing a sketch of what can be expanded.
We want to optimize the space we have. The idea would be to raise the ceiling about three or four meters and make an intermediate slab that goes from the ground to about three meters.
So, everything that is a general work gym with the weights supplement would work below. This would take us a third of the current field, approximately. Then there would be room to make a buffet, flip the front wall to place some blindex. Also, add a showroom. We are behind the under-patenting of the Argentine brand, to be able to market all kinds of elements such as clothing, school supplies, etc. We also want to give it a more social life, where the member can come to do exercises and why not share them with the club’s players.
Upstairs we would move the alternative court, respecting the seven meters of height of the regulatory ceiling, with changing rooms and others. We cannot leave the court down because there are supporting columns to be built and that is going to take up a bit of space.
The architecture project is already advanced and then start working with the materials that you request and start. We want to have it ready for the first days of October.
The truth is that it is a sector that we have for training and female divisions, which we consider can give it another greater use ”.

Almirante Brown’s house

“As for the house that we have in front of the club, where the weight gym is currently located, we have other projects in mind.
We want to make about six small apartments to house the recruits. A meeting room and we would spend the secretariat there.
The idea is to make a community soup kitchen for the recruits. Let them have their apartment, we will see if we can do it with a private bathroom or not. For everyone to eat there would be ideal. We have a team of ten or twelve boys between the ages of thirty and thirty-five who are permanently collaborating with the club. They help a lot with the training sessions. There are a couple who are in charge of feeding the three recruited players from Monday to Monday. They make the food and take it to where they are staying. All with donations made by trade houses, greengrocers, butchers, poultry, etc. These things are sometimes not seen, people do not know them. It is a beautiful work group, most of them children of former players, fans, partners, who do a very good job in silence. They are supervised by the executive committee and are dedicated to the training divisions. They have nothing to do with the League, which is a separate appendix in the club. We don’t want to mix things up. What is a small school until the first local has an administration. What is the National League, has another separate accounting. So many are not mixed in the economic part, they are different. The League has its budget and it is strictly adhered to. Money is never taken from one side to cover the other.
They are all construction projects that are in the pipeline and that the club deserves to have ”.

Huarte’s departure

“The facts were like this. When he introduced himself to me and Velazco, he told us that he had another undertaking due to his age, to the family, that he would dedicate himself to real estate.
It seemed like a logical thing to do. A few days later, we read in Democracia that he was in the market for professional coaches.
We were surprised because a week later we read in Democracia that he was going to Hispano de Río Gallegos.

The truth was that we were surprised because if he planned to continue directing, which he did not express to us in the first meeting, he did not even give us the chance to make him an offer. We did not even have this possibility to bid for a possible continuity. It did not go down well with the commission. We respect decisions, but it does not mean that we share them. We wish him the best, he was born in the club, so good, but the decision was surprising ”.

Who is coming?

“They are offering me 20 technicians a day, more or less on average. We are not going to get out of the way of working. We have a budget and we know how much we can pay. Whoever comes will have to conform to what can be paid and work with the resources that the club has. We pay as much as we can, which does not mean that the professional does not deserve what they ask for. They have to adapt to our budget ”.
