Hermann Gerland is now speaking after he has left

Only 250 spectators were allowed in the Allianz Arena when Hermann Gerland said goodbye to FC Bayern last Saturday. The applause for the 66-year-old assistant coach legend was still loud, the scenes touching.

In the new episode of SPORT1 Podcasts “My Bavaria Week ” (published this Friday) Gerland didn’t want to say a lot about his departure with chief reporter Florian Plettenberg, because the Bochum native already has new plans!

Gerland talks about his future

“I will return to the football business. But I will no longer be an assistant coach and I will no longer be a coach,” said Gerland.

It is not ruled out that he will soon follow national coach Hansi Flick. “Will I do something at the DFB?” Asks Gerland: “Who knows. I haven’t had any talks with anyone yet.”

It is clear, however, that the time together with Flick was a special one for him. “It was a crowning achievement for me to have seen Hansi Flick as a coach at Bayern,” says Gerland: “I’ve worked with some of the greatest coaches in the world, and Hansi had extraordinary successes – seven titles in 18 months, more is possible actually not. He has outstanding skills. The way he treats the players and his staff is extraordinary. I can very well understand that Oliver Bierhoff wanted him to be the national coach. “

Gerland is currently on home leave with his family. Even there he is confronted with his ex-club every day, because his grandchildren, he reveals, “walk around in Bayern clothes all day”. Gerland promises: “FC Bayern will always be in my heart.”

Nagelsmann and Gerland have a good relationship

He also has an opinion about Julian Nagelsmann. There were rumors that Flick’s successor did not want Gerland in the coaching team and that he had to leave. Nagelsmann himself vehemently denied this, including Gerland.

Because the tiger goes of his own free will and has a good relationship with Nagelsmann. In addition, the two have a secret in common: “Five years ago he asked me if I would like to be his assistant coach in Hoffenheim. I canceled because I was at Bayern, at the best club with the best coaches. Why should I leave there should?”

Nagelsmann is now going to be a Bayern coach himself and Gerland says: “For me, Julian Nagelsmann is a first-class coach.”

Which German assistant coach Nagelsmann absolutely wants to guide to Munich, why he is no longer allowed to sign stars and which young star can present himself to him, you will find out in the new episode of “My Bavaria Week”. No Bayern fan should miss it!
