Grigor Dimitrov, a man with style

A few weeks ago we saw Grigor Dimitrov blowing out the candles on his 30th birthday, a gesture that brought out the same question from within: have we already seen the best of the Bulgarian? While the results do not finish arriving on the track, Haskovo’s has long been a benchmark in the world of fashion and sports style. On these issues we were able to hear him dialogue with Daniela hantuchova, a former player turned presenter who also closely follows everything that has to do with aesthetics. Together they had a good time in an interview where the last thing they talked about was tennis.

“The subject of fashion was always interesting to me, maybe even a little more when I started to be involved in the professional circuit, when I jumped onto the public stage,” says the one who for many is the most attractive tennis player in the men’s wardrobe. “It is a department that has helped me a lot when it comes to knowing what I like, also to define my identity, what clothes are related to me and how I want to wear them, what shows I want to go to and why. With the passage of time I became what I am now thanks to these kinds of decisions. I have become someone very creative, a person who tends to bet on the new, on the different, I always seek to be different from others in that aspect. For me, that difference is always found in the small details ”, warns the Bulgarian, a real perfectionist.

That resemblance to Roger Federer in tennis also extends to the extra sport. Do you not remember the great change of the Swiss when it comes to dressing as soon as he reached the elite? With Grigor, something similar happened, although in a less classical style. “One of the things I learned from attending these events was the difference between how you wear your clothes and how you want to wear your clothes. This is something fundamental that I saw over time. The normal thing is that people buy clothes for the simple fact of buying them, because we want to have them in our closet, but we rarely stop to think: ‘Do I really need something like that? Will I then be able to combine this with other elements?‘. Nowadays, every time I want to buy something, even a simple T-shirt or shorts, before I do I think: ‘Am I really going to wear it? Will I be able to combine it with the rest of the clothes?’. Questioning myself this is what has helped me the most to define my style and always offer something different”, Explains the former world No. 3.

His relationship with Roland Garros

Now, after a rather weak clay tour, Dimitrov returns to Paris, where he reflects a 12-10 record. “I have a very special relationship with this place, not only with the tournament, but also with the city, since I was living here for three and a half years. I remember that at the beginning I was not able to enjoy the games muchAlthough that did not mean that I loved the site, they were two completely different things. Over time I gradually took the timing of the city and the tournament, I discovered a way to fully enjoy the experience, to the point that it made me very sad when the end came and I had to leave. Then it has always been a delight to return, I have a lot of beautiful memories of Paris, no matter how those first years were. Since then, every season that I return I discover a new corner of the city, a new secret of the tournament ”, assesses the current Nº17 of the ranking. We will be aware of his adventures this spring, where he has to make his debut against the American Marcos Giron.
