Gold and bronze for Inés Villahoz and Marta Gaitero at the Coimbra International Cup

Lagune judocas disputed this competition in Portuguese lands with the presence of athletes from Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan and Italy among others.

The world of judo in Laguna de Duero is in luck. This past weekend the Coimbra International Cup was played in Portugal. Two of the most relevant cadet judocas on the national scene traveled to Portuguese lands with the aim of going up to the podium. Inés Villahoz was gold in the category of less than 52 kilos while Marta Gaitero was bronze in less than 48 kilos – both judocas militate in the Finisterre Judo Club and natives of Laguna de Duero.

Villahoz won all his ippon bouts. The first against the Portuguese Caterina Oliveira, the second against the German Frieda Shendeee, and the third against the Czech Adalia Reber. In the semifinals she defeated the French Alisa Domine, and already in the final she beat the also Spanish Alba Ramírez.

In the case of Marta, she faced the Italian Melisa Greco, in the second against the Portuguese Andrea Silva and in the fourth against the Spanish María Sánchez – all by ippon -. Finally she fell to the Swiss Mia Keller by sanctions and won the bronze to the Portuguese María Pereira by ippon.

Both athletes were accompanied by their coach Víctor Gómez, who will soon also see one of his pupils at the highest international level, such as Alberto Gaitero, who will play the world championship on June 7 in Budapest.
