Rewind the tape and rethink aesthetic codes. The S / S 2022 men’s collection designed by Kim Jones for Dior feels the need to reaffirm his masculine identity, with a dip that takes us back to the Sixties when at the helm of Christian Dior, there was a certain – so to speak – Marc Bohan, successor of Yves Saint Laurent, at the helm of the French house for 28 years, from 1961 to 1989. Not only «Slim Look» with Bohan the first men’s line by Dior was born, the one Kim Jones looks to for the creation of this new collection in which everything seems to have become more refined and relaxed. The volumes are softer, the trousers are wide, and the sneakers are almost visible, the shirts are oversized, the sweaters have braid work, the light and impalpable colors in shades of blues and pinks soften the darker colors for an effect reassuring, warm, as if it were a hug in which to be pampered. “The color palette was really a compilation of all of our favorite colors that we’ve been using over the past three years mixing them together and carrying them on so we can move on to the next stage of what we do here at Dior. I think it’s good to reinvent what you do, ”Kim Jones told al WWD. Combining tailoring and sportswear, Jones studied the archives, which have always been a staple of his, to reinterpret what has made the maison great over the years. So the logo Dior Oblique of the aforementioned Marc Bohan – perhaps his most lasting contribution to the visual identity of the maison – is now declined throughout the collection with a lighter, more subtle aesthetic, the vintage writing Christian Dior Atelier enriches the varsity jackets and baseball shirts with pieces that seem to wink at the Preppy style but with a very sophisticated cut. “We wanted to play a little with proportions and look for a way to make tailoring less formal,” said Jones and once again he did it great.
