Daley Blind is ahead of schedule: initially he would make his comeback next Sunday in the goodbye match against Georgia, but the defender is already training with the group to the surprise of national coach Frank de Boer.
Blind tore his ankle ligaments against Gibraltar at the end of March and missed Ajax’s season finale, but he will make it to the European Championship. The recovery is going even faster than expected, De Boer acknowledges at ESPN. “Honestly, yes. It might be more perfect than perfect.”
“I thought that he could now act as a handball player in practice, but yesterday (Saturday, ed.) In Zeist he also participated in the group.”
De Boer does not yet know whether Blind will get minutes against Scotland on Wednesday. “Every time you have to wait for the reaction. Because of an injury you often walk a little differently, so that other body parts also go to work. We look at it day by day, but it looks really positive. The faster he can get rhythm, the better.”
Can Daley Blind already make minutes on Wednesday? 🙏
