David Goffin and Alison Van Uytvanck in first round of Rola…

David Goffin (ATP 13) was unable to qualify for the second round at Roland Garros on Monday. The 30-year-old from Liège lost his opener on the clay in Paris against the 19-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti (ATP 76). Alison Van Uytvanck also lost out.

It was Goffin’s very first meeting with the young Italian, who was unimpressed and immediately confronted the Belgian with the facts. Goffin lost the first set 6-0. Afterwards, Goffin showed improvement, although he could not raise his level enough to steal Musetti’s set win. In the third set, a tiebreak brought the decision. Goffin couldn’t beat the Italian and lost the match. The party lasted 2 hours and 22 minutes.

Goffin’s best performance in Paris is a place in the quarter-finals in 2016. Also last year, the Liège player was killed in the first round without mercy against another Italian, Jannik Sinner.

Alison Van Uytvanck (WTA 67) lost her opener against the Italian Martina Trevisan (WTA 97) in three sets: 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4. The match lasted 2 hours and 53 minutes.

Van Uytvanck, still quarterfinalist in Paris in 2015, lost the first set 7-5. In the second set, however, she managed to balance the tables again with a 4-6 win. In the third and decisive set, it was not possible to continue that line. She lost 6-4.
