Throughout Sunday, clues were given in this regard and finally Conmebol confirmed everything at night: Argentina will not host the Copa América.

Let us remember that recently, the governing body of South American football had confirmed that Colombia would not be one of the venues due to the difficult social situation in the country.

Early in the morning, from the Ministry of Health, headed by Carla Vizzotti, they confirmed to public opinion that the organization of the contest “was not 100% defined” due to the complicated situation in terms of COVID-19 infections.

Later, the Minister of the Interior, Wado de Pedro, trilled the following on his Twitter account: “I was talking today with the president @alferdez about the health situation of all jurisdictions and in particular of Buenos Aires, Tucumán, Mendoza, Córdoba and Santa Fe. Being consistent with health care, we see that it is very difficult for the Copa América to be played ”.

With all the extremely complicated panorama, it only remained to wait for a pronouncement from Conmebol and it was. Late at night, it was confirmed through his official account that Argentina would not host the Copa América.

“CONMEBOL informs that in view of the present circumstances it has decided to suspend the organization of the Copa América in Argentina. CONMEBOL analyzes the offer of other countries that showed interest in hosting the continental tournament ”, they wrote on Twitter.
