Colombia Selection Deiver Machado and his outstanding performance in France. | Colombians Abroad

Colombian footballers around the world are making their way, whatever the league. The superlative level and evolution is seen with the passing of the seasons. Deiver Machado is one of the players who has set the tone, leaving the national flag high for his outstanding level.

After a period of inactivity in Belgium, after passing through Nacional, he arrived at Toulouse in the second division of France. Despite losing the playoff to Nantes, the left-back stood out, starting all 35 games all season, barely being substituted five times.

Machado spoke with Futbolred about what was his step in the first season in France, in addition to the desire to return to the Colombian National Team at some point.

What is your balance this season?

The confidence of the coaching staff and teammates is positive. I have had to play practically the entire tournament, it has been very good. Despite being a new group, we have known and understood each other well. That has contributed to raising the level, I feel personally, well, comfortable and calm. I am at a good level and it is reflected in the games. I am happy for this opportunity to play in Toulouse.

How is the team working and what does Patrice Garandee ask for on the pitch?

Our system is 3-5-2, that makes it easier for us to have the band to make long runs, it always asks us to advance to the attack, but with order, if one advances, the other stays a bit. In addition to asking us for depth and the characteristic of a side, to go on the attack.

In retrospect, since the passage through Millonarios, Nacional and Belgium, how has the evolution been from football?

It has been a 180 degree change, we cannot compare Colombian football to French. The country’s football is technical, but here it is more technical and tactical. You have to have a lot of concentration, in all aspects, if you are not careful they will mark you. The level and pace of the matches is high. Over time, with the experience in Belgium, that has helped me to adapt faster.

When you come to a new club it costs the first games, they are different ideas but when you grab them quickly you adapt and you are at the group level. I have been fortunate to adapt and get the idea from the technician.

What happened in Belgium? Did it end with a letter of freedom?

When I left Nacional I had to return to Belgium, I had a contract. There were adverse situations that did not allow me to play, I trained with the second team and they did not take me into account in the first team. With the stoppage of the pandemic, I had the option of changing my representative. That’s when the option of arriving in Toulouse arose.

How was the process of arrival in Toulouse?

The first thing you think about is playing and picking up the pace. It was good because this challenge came, it was a good project because it is a team that has been in first class, it attracted me a lot.

Until when do you have a contract with Toulouse?

I have one more year of contract

Have you had contact with any member of the coaching staff or approach with the environment of the Colombian National Team?

At the moment I have not had contacts, one always has the illusion of being in the National Team, it is a pride and a privilege. One is professional and respects the decisions of each coach. It remains to continue working, with sacrifice. If it happens, one is prepared and at the height required to be in the Colombian National Team.

With the level you have, do you think that level can be achieved soon?

I feel at a great sports level, but it all depends on the style of play that the teacher wants. I only have to work. If it wasn’t now, it will be later. I would be happy if it is immediately, but you have to learn to manage those times.
