Upper House must vote to realize the long-awaited dream of lovers of this discipline
There is less and less time for the basketball players that make up the different clubs of the Chilean Basketball League to be recognized as professionals, and the good news is that this initiative is coming to fruition.
Recently, the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved with 128 votes in favor, none against and one abstention, the bill that recognizes the existence of the professional basketball player in our country, as such.
This initiative, headed by Deputy Marcos Ilabaca, sought to modify the Labor Code, in order to regulate contractual relations between athletes and the clubs in which they are developed, that is, there are contracts as such, with their due remuneration, contributions and social security.
Since 2019, this idea had been projected where the National Association of Basketball Players realized the precariousness of the system to the detriment of basketball players in Chile.
The next step is the approval of the Senate, so that the great desire of professional basketball players, becomes a reality.
Miguel Molina Grez, prominent basketball leader, said that “this comes to end the painful reality that many players in the Professional Basketball League are experiencing, but the time has come for this sport to be respected with its just rights.”
This month will be key for the National Basketball League, since they have been in recess due to the health emergency that the country is currently experiencing, as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic. A renewal in the competition format was reported, where it is intended to play only one regular stage until completing 20 games, and then give way to the post season. The main modification is to respect the agreed dates, that the regular stage begins on June 27 and that the play-offs are played in the month of July.
Finally, it has been pointed out that the sport of the hoop and the board would return to the rectangle on May 8.
