The Supercup with the German national basketball team will take place in Hamburg again this year. The German Basketball Federation (DBB) announced on Friday. From June 18 to 20, the team of national coach Henrik Rödl will meet Italy, the Czech Republic and Tunisia in the Wilhelmsburg arena. So far, Germany has won the Supercup five times (2004, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019). In view of the corona pandemic, the event will take place without spectators.
“The Supercup is the central part of our very short preparation on the way to the Olympic qualification,” said Rödl, “we have very strong and attractive opponents who will give us a good assessment of our position.” The Supercup is visiting Hamburg for the fourth time in a row and for the fifth time.
The qualification for the Summer Games in Tokyo (July 23rd to August 8th) will take place from June 29th to July 4th in Split, Croatia. There the German team meets Mexico and Russia in the preliminary round.
In the semi-finals, Croatia, Tunisia or Brazil could wait before the final. Only the winner is allowed to travel to Japan. It is still unclear whether Dennis Schröder from the Los Angeles Lakers will play for Germany and which other NBA professionals can be there.
