Friborg Olympic justified its role as favorite in Act I of the playoff final by beating the Starwings 87-68. Petar Aleksic’s men have therefore taken the lead in this best of 5 matches series.
The greater homogeneity of the residents of St-Léonard undoubtedly played a role, while their opponents had to rely more on their base 5. On the Olympic side, the top scorers were Jackson (15), Morris and Zinn (14) and Krajina (13). Opposite, Milon and Milenkovic, each with 17 points, were too alone.
Starwings only briefly deluded in the 1st quarter. The Balois led 16-11 after 4’25, before the Olympic machine kicked in. Freiburg then steadily increased its lead against the Starwings who quickly saw that there was nothing to be done. The Balois may also have chosen to spare their strength a little in view of the second game they will play at home on Saturday.
