Basketball and baseball? No, this year the American schools compete against each other with Switches

Nintendo of America has announced a partnership with PlayVS (esports league that brings together American superiors and colleges) for a very particular purpose: starting fall 2021, both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2 will be added to the PlayVS High School Leagues, allowing participating high school teams across the United States and Canada to compete with each other in online matches. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will join the lineup in the spring of 2022.

Bill Trinen, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Nintendo of America, shared the following:

“We know there are many Nintendo fans with incredible gaming talent who are looking for more ways to explore competitive play and participate in tournaments. Working with a community-centric organization like PlayVS is a major step forward, as Nintendo expands our support for competitive play and helps more players get into competitive play. High school students across the country will be able to test their Nintendo Switch gaming skills in a competitive environment and hopefully create beautiful memories along the way“.

As part of the new agreement, PlayVS and Nintendo will supply Nintendo Switch consoles to hundreds of select schools who will qualify for a championship of Nintendo PlayVS titles this school year.

Come on, is it or isn’t it spectacular news?
