“That was probably nothing”, Grasshoppers chairman Peter Feichtinger has to admit. The Vienna Metrostars won both games in the re-edition of the previous year’s final. Previously, the Traiskirchner had walked through the league like a dream with a comparatively simple draw with 10: 1 victories. At first it looked like it would continue against the metrostars. Tobias Kiefer was as strong as usual on the throwing hill and didn’t let the Viennese score. The Hoppers led 4-0. After the obligatory pitcher change, the engine began to stutter. Michael Koller couldn’t close the sack for Traiskirchen. “He’s just not in the shape of the last few years,” puzzles Feichtinger.

Metrostars gets the momentum

Youngster Markus Trimmel took over on the throwing hill (under pressure to pull) and saved the Hoppers 4: 4 in extra time. In the first extra inning, the Viennese then made the victory clear (5: 4). The Traiskirchner suffered the only loss of the season to date against Dornbirn in extra time. In the second game the air was a bit outside. The metrostars quickly adjusted to Brett Ludeman’s throws. The US pitcher was then unable to adapt his game and kept producing walks. When they were 0: 5 behind, the game was actually over. “They got into our heads. I never had the feeling that we could still turn it around”, Feichtinger finally had to admit defeat with 5:12.

It continues next Thursday (7 p.m.) with a home game against the Vienna Wanderers. 100 spectators can be there at Hoppersfield. Please register in advance at [email protected].
