The joy happened more than 14,236 kilometers from Argentina. It happened far away, in Azerbaijan, a country on the Asian continent surrounded by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. In that inhospitable place for us, the Argentine Eduardo Gauto won the bronze medal in the Judo Grand Prix held in Baku, capital of said territory.

Gauto has been on an international tour for several days with the Argentine Paralympic judo team. In the contest he demonstrated its worth when winning Davyd Khorava from Ukraine in the category up to 66 kilo B1. In this way, the Argentine stood out among more than 40 athletes from different countries in a tournament that brings together the best. Although the path to podió was not easy: at the start he lost to the representative of Kazakhstan, and reached third place after beating the judokas of Japan, Georgia, the United States and Ukraine.

Gauto’s podium is no accident. In addition to being already classified for the Tokyo Olympics – and before the start of the pandemic – he had achieved two golds at the Pan American Games in Lima and Montreal.

The Argentine judo team is made up of blind and visually impaired athletes and was able to compete again after a year and a half of standing due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
