26 of 32 CL participants known: Heavy opposition Club Brugge, Genk not protected

The field of the following Champions Leagueseason is starting to take shape. Club Brugge is already certain of participation, possibly number two will come KRC Genk keep them company. Who can encounter the Belgian Champions League participant? VoetbalPrimeur.be explains it.

Club Brugge
The Belgian league can still send one team to the CL group stage and Club Brugge is the lucky one. However, it must prepare for a particularly tough draw at the Champions Ball.

The champions of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France and Portugal will enter Pot 1, along with the Champions League and Europa League. The other participants are divided according to the club ranking, which is drawn up on the basis of the European performances of the last five years.

Club Brugge has reached a total of 35,500 between 2016 and 2021, making it one of the lowest ranked teams in the tournament. Pot 4 is therefore virtually unavoidable.

Other pots: FC Porto (87,000), Ajax (82,500), RB Leipzig (66,000), Atalanta Bergamo (50,500), Zenit Saint Petersburg (50,000), Besiktas (49,000), Dinamo Kiev (47,000), CLUB BRUGGE (35,500), AC Milan (31,000), VfL Wolfsburg (14,714), six qualifying round clubs.

Club Brugge closes the season as number 41 of de UEFA-clubranking and are thus sentenced to pot four.

KRC Genk
If Manchester United had won the Europa League, KRC Genk would have a protected status, but that has not been granted to the Limburgers. Again, the clubs are ranked according to their recent European performance: the three highest ranked clubs have seeded status and cannot meet each other during the draw.

Second Champions League preliminary round for non-champions 2021/2022
Clubs seeded: Celtic (34,000), PSV (29,000), Sparta Prague (17,5000)
Unseeded clubs: Rapid Wien (17,000), Galatasaray (17,000), FC Midtjylland (13,500)

Of the six clubs from this preliminary round, three remain: they advance to the third heat.

Third Champions League qualifying round for non-champions 2021/2022
Clubs seeded: Shakhtar Donetsk (79.000), Benfica (58.000), AS Monaco (36.000), KRC GENK (30.000) *
Unseeded clubs: Spartak Moscow (18,500), winner from second heat, winner from second heat, winner from second heat.
* = KRC Genk loses the seeded status after the second heat.
