10th time lucky! Brentford Graduates and Drunk with Joy | Premier League

The patience of the fans of “The Bees” was put to the test, but today they can celebrate. For the first time since the 1946-1947 season, Brentford finally has a place in the English first division again.

Brentford, for example, makes its first appearance in the Premier League since it was started in 1992.

To accomplish that, Swansea had to be stunned. After 20 minutes, Brentford already had a comfortable double lead.

Ivan Toney, top regular league scorer with 31 goals, opened the scoring from the dot. Ten minutes later, Emiliano Marcondes poked the 2-0 against the net after a well-played counter.

Just past the hour, Jay Fulton took last hope from Swansea by picking up a straight red card.

Trainer Thomas Frank was clear in his interview just after the game. “Now I just want to get so drunk tonight. Tomorrow we think about the Premier League.”

“I think we deserved to be promoted last year, but we didn’t. That’s football. This season there was Covid and we had our ups and downs.” Frank could just say those words after which he was dragged along by his players.

The last football season “The Bees” also played the final of the play-offs, but then after extra time they had to acknowledge their superior in Denis Odoi’s Fulham. Swansea dropped to the English second division in 2018 and has been sentenced to do so for at least 1 extra season.

Fulham is relegated to the Championship after a year, along with West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United. Those places, in addition to Brentford, are taken by champion Norwich and the number two in the Championship Watford. The latter teams make their return to the Premier League after a year of absence.
