Zubov has been confirmed as the head coach of “Dinamo”

Zubovs was appointed the head coach at the extended meeting of the council and board of JSC “Dinamo Rīga” held on Monday.

“I am very grateful to the management of” Dinamo “for the trust shown. I will do my best to make the Riga team happy with the great Latvian fans with its performance and results,” Zubovs said in a conversation with the club’s press service. “I understand that the situation is not easy, but it is a challenge that I have accepted and I will do my best and impossible for the team to fight for the play-off again.”

“There is a lot of work ahead for team building and the development of a specific preparation plan. I will start working immediately, working closely with the club management,” the specialist revealed.

The “Dinamo” council instructed the head coach to develop a plan for the club’s new season, as well as to submit to the council proposals for candidates for the head coaches’ assistants and team players.

Zubov once spent 16 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). In 12 of them, Zubov represented the Dallas Stars unit.

On March 3, “Dinamo” terminated cooperation with Pēteris Skudras, who was appointed the team’s head coach on July 20 last year. Under his leadership, “Dinamo” won 28 points in 60 games this season and was the weakest unit in the entire league.

During his career as a player in the Russian national team, Zubov won the Olympic Games in 1992, but he won the Stanley Cup twice – in 1994 with the New York Rangers and five years later with the Stars.

2011/12 Zubov started his coaching career in the St. Petersburg SKA team as an assistant. 2015/16. In the season he became the head coach of SKA, but for the next three seasons he worked as the head coach of the “Sochi” club.

The Rigans have not played in the Gagarin Cup for seven consecutive seasons.
