Messi Drags Five People in Ring 1 Barcelona to Court

KOMPAS.com – Lionel Messi has begun to reveal the identity of the Barcelona official accused of being responsible for the leak of details of his contract published in the Spanish media, El Mundo Deportivo.

The list consists of five active and former officials in Barcelona’s highest circle or “Ring 1” with the different roles they have played in connection with Messi’s contract.

As reported on the Mundo Deportivo page, the five people are Josep Maria Bartomeu, Jordi Mestre, Oscar Grau, Carles Tusquets, and Roman Gomez Ponti.

Bartomeu and Mastre were the club’s president and vice-president duo when Messi signed a four-year contract in 2017.

Meanwhile, Grau’s role is as club director who is responsible for the player’s contract negotiation process.

Tusquets is a former high-ranking club finance officer who currently serves as Interim Barcelona President, after Bartomeu resigned.

Meanwhile, the reason Messi took Ponti’s name was because he knew firsthand the details of the mega star’s contract related to his duties as Head of Legal Affairs at Barcelona.

The five people will be the defendants in the official protest by Messi and his legal counsel in the near future.

Based on another report from Marca, Messi has also prepared a lawsuit against El Mundo for the news they made regarding the player’s contract.

The Spanish daily made an in-depth article about Messi’s contract, which reached a total value of around 555.3 million euros (nearly IDR 9.37 trillion) as their headline last week.

The publication of the report angered Messi’s camp, because the details of his work agreement with Barcelona were protected by the confidentiality clause promised by the club.

Barcelona itself have dismissed allegations that their superiors leaked Messi’s contract to the media.

A similar statement was also made by Bartomeu, who called the act of leaking Messi’s contract as illegal.
