Manchester United let Van Gaal-purchase Rojo leave for Boca Juniors | NOW

Marcos Rojo says goodbye to Manchester United. The thirty-year-old Argentinian, who has never really been able to convince at the English top club in 6.5 years, has signed a contract with Boca Juniors from his home country.

United and Boca will not make any statements about a transfer fee on Tuesday, but according to various media, the 34-time champion of Argentina does not have to pay anything to buy off Rojo’s contract that runs until next summer.

The then Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal transferred 20 million euros to Sporting CP in the summer of 2014 for the left-footed defender.

In his first three seasons at Old Trafford, Rojo appeared regularly, although there were always doubts and he never secured a regular starting place. Since the 2017/2018 season, the 61-time Argentinian international has played only seventeen Premier League matches. His last game for United was in November 2019.

Rojo, who was loaned to Argentine Estudiantes in the second half of last season, ends his period at Manchester United with 122 official games and two goals.

In Argentina, the winter transfer market is still open until February 19, allowing the transfer to be completed after the European Deadline Day.
