Liverpool Banned from Going to Germany, Lazio May

Jakarta

Liverpool are barred from flying to Germany following travel restrictions from the country. But the same is not true for Lazio.

Liverpool and Lazio are known to meet German representatives in the last 16 of this season’s Champions League. The Reds meet RB Leipzig, while the draw will bring the Biancoceleste with Bayern Munich.

Liverpool itself is in trouble. The German government’s latest regulations announced that at least until February 17, they would not accept arrivals from the UK to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The UK is known to have experienced a spike in daily COVID-19 cases, following the discovery of a new variant of the virus.

Although the average number of daily cases during the past week has decreased compared to January, it is still above 20 thousand, according to the New York Times data until Friday (5/2/2021) in the morning WIB.

Because of that, travel restriction from the land of Queen Elizabeth it is still in effect. This condition is clearly disturbing Liverpool, who will undergo the first leg against Leipzig at Red Bull Arena on February 17.

Even so, a similar rule will not apply to Lazio. The average daily COVID-19 cases in Italy are still high, but below 12 thousand in the past week.

In addition, the number of cases of the new COVID-19 variant in Italy is said to be insignificant, so the pizza country is not included in the list of blocked countries.

Another important factor, Lazio will fly to Munich in mid-March, for the second leg. The first leg will be held in Rome on 24 February.

If the restriction rules are not extended and Italy continues to experience a decline in cases, Lazio is free to leave for Germany, of course with strict health protocol standards.

As for Liverpool, there are three options so far. First, the first leg of the last 16 will be shifted to London, to be precise at Wembley Stadium. Second, changing home game rations so that Liverpool host Leipzig first.

Third, the meeting of the two teams was only held once at a neutral venue. This is allowed by UEFA, if it is enforced in a country travel restriction.
