Ino Hodapp, the Wiechser mayor, is 70 years old – Schopfheim

The Wiechser mayor Ino Hodapp has had an eventful life in local politics and sports behind him and still has some plans. He celebrates his 70th birthday on Tuesday.

Ino Hodapp was born on February 2, 1951 as one of two sons of a Schopfheim family of civil servants. After kindergarten and elementary school, Ino Hodapp first attended the Schopfheimer Gymnasium, then graduated from the Lörracher Wirtschaftsgymnasium. The family was already living in Wiechs. After completing his military service, Ino Hodapp studied at the vocational college in Stuttgart and then started as a vocational school teacher at the commercial school in Bad Säckingen. After an intermezzo at the trade school in Schopfheim, he switched to the neighboring business school. There he worked, most recently as deputy headmaster, until retirement.

Ino Hodapp was always very sporty in her private life. At a young age he was a successful young swimmer for the Schopfheim swimming club at the time. During his studies, Hodapp switched to judo at TSV Rot-Weiß Lörrach and made it to the podium at the state championships. He later founded and headed the judo department at TSG Schopfheim. Via Marianne Leisinger, whom he married in 1979, Ino Hodapp found out about handball at SV Schopfheim, where he was active and youth coach.

Active with the young union

His communal politics were almost even more pronounced, says the jubilee. Ino Hodapp was active at the Junge Union Schopfheim when he was young. He remembers great times with the CDU youngsters, but also that the Greens were closer to him later. In 1980 he entered the Schopfheim City Council for the Greens. “At that time it was a novelty even nationwide that a Green man moved into a city parliament,” recalls Ino Hodapp. But it didn’t last long with the Greens either. “I hated the wing battles that began in the mid-1980s,” says Hodapp.

And he remembers that today’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann sent him a letter when he found out that he was leaving. But that did not change his mind and so he became a member of the Schopfheim Independent. For this he moved back to the city council for the first time in 1994 and will remain active there for 25 years until 2019. It goes without saying that he has long since received the relevant certificates and honors. Ino Hodapp has been a member of the Wiechs local council for even longer. Since 1984 and until 1994 as its “normal” member, since 1994 he has been the mayor of the Dinkelberg district.

When asked where the motivation for working in local politics for significantly more than half a lifetime comes from, Hodapp doesn’t have to think twice.

Relaxation with genealogy

“I am a political person, want to make a difference and stand up for an intact community life,” said the jubilee. He gets the strength for voluntary work from recreational sports, cycling, cross-country skiing, Nordic walking, swimming – and the contact with his three sons and three grandchildren, which he also maintains in retirement. And he sings in the Wiechs choir, hoping that it will soon be possible again. Until then he also relaxes with genealogy, gardening and caring for four brown Bavarian mountain sheep. Plans for the future? In response to this question, Hodapp modestly mentions “a calm continuation for the community”, meaning both the family and the communities of Wiechs and Schopfheim.

Ino Hodapp can only celebrate the milestone birthday on a small scale due to the corona. “For the summer I have planned a barbecue party with friends who will also be 70 this spring. And in September a family holiday in the Italian region of Marche is on the agenda,” says Ino Hodapp.
