Downhill in Garmisch: Ferstl falls violently on the Kandahar – Sport

The German ski racers missed the top ten on the last descent before the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Dominik Schwaiger was the best starter of the German Ski Association after 30 riders in the home World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Friday. He was 1.36 seconds behind the Italian Dominik Paris, who was ahead of the Swiss Beat Feuz (+0.37) and the Austrian Matthias Mayer (+0.40).

Schwaiger’s teammates disappointed. Romed Baumann (+1.53) was in 14th place, Andreas Sander (+2.37) in 23rd place. Josef Ferstl fell violently, he flew off after an internal ski error at the Seilbahnstadl jump. The former Kitzbühel winner slammed hard on the piste after a flight over 30 meters and crashed his back into the safety net, which he tore out of its anchoring.

However, Ferstl got up and was able to drive down to the valley himself. “I’m doing well under the circumstances,” he said on ZDF: “I was lucky, it could have turned out worse.” Both knees are “okay, but the ankle and hip hurt,” he added.

Thomas Dreßen, who made his comeback after a hip operation in training on Thursday, decided not to start a race and only hit the slopes as a forerunner. The 27-year-old will also not take part in the Super-G on the Kandahar on Saturday (11.30 a.m.). The World Cup in Italy will take place from February 8 to 21.
