Europe’s Champions League winner FC Bayern Munich will face the African Champions League winner Al Ahly SC in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup in Qatar on Monday (7 p.m. / CET). The Egyptians defeated Qatari champions Al-Duhail SC 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Thursday thanks to a goal from Hussein El Shahat (30th). Immediately after their Bundesliga away game on Friday (8 p.m.) at Hertha BSC, Munich will fly from Berlin to Qatar’s capital Doha.

Regardless of the strains of travel and competition, the triple winner’s players look forward to the tournament in Qatar. “The team is looking forward to a few days of sunshine,” said national player Serge Gnabry in an interview with Internet sports broadcaster DAZN: “We all really wanted the tournament to take place.” The goal, continued Gnabry, is “of course to win another title, that would be the sixth”.

Before Al Ahly SC, UANL Tigres reached the semifinals. The Mexican club, which represents North and Central America and the Caribbean, prevailed in the first quarter-finals against the winner of the Asian elite league; against the South Korean team from Ulsan Hyundai there was a 2: 1 (2: 1). In the semifinals, Tigres will face SE Palmeiras from Brazil, who won the Copa Libertadores for the second time on Saturday. Kim Ki-Hee (24th) put Ulsan in the lead. Former French international Andre-Pierre Gignac turned the game around with a double strike shortly before the break (38th / 45th + 5 penalty kick).
