Virtual medals to close the XX City of Avilés

The XX Ciudad de Avilés, this time ‘online’ version taking into account the circumstances, put its finishing touch yesterday afternoon with the dispute for the medals among those classified in previous days for the rounds of truth. The emotion and equality, given the great quality of the performances of the different couples, led the judges to debate until the end to announce the scores.

This system, innovative and adapted to the current delicate moment, allowed that the twentieth edition of the traditional Ciudad de Avilés Christmas tournament did not have to be suspended and that the judokas of the Avilesino club maintained the activity for the last two months parallel to the sensations that the competition entails , so important as a motivating element at these ages. The format used by Judo Avilés was recognized and praised not only by the participating families themselves, but by countless national clubs. In addition, the Spanish Federation itself echoed on its social networks. Without a doubt, imagination and innovation have once again triumphed on the part of the local club.

The results were divided between the two categories for which the organization opted: seniors and minors, in both cases by couples and as a family. The champions in minors were Noa and Jose Requejo, with Pablo and Rubén in second position and David and Olaya, Andrea Fernández, Jorge Manrique and Aleix González in third. Covadonga and Bárbara and Olivia and Berni Wensell were fifth.

In seniors, the champions were Carla and Hugo Viña, daughter and father, with Rubén Menéndez and Pablo Ferreira in second position and Ainara and Ángel, Nicolás Fernández, Nora Redondo and Jorge Pizarro completing the podium. In fifth position, the couple made up of Aleix and Laura finished.

In total, a total of 50 couples participated and the tournament began on December 28 in a knockout format. The competition began in the quarterfinals and yesterday it was decided in the middle of a great sporting atmosphere both by the participants and the organizers.
