Victories for Hermann and Gassner in St. Moritz

In the snow flurries in St. Moritz, the German skeleton races took their first wins of the season. World champion Tina Hermann did not allow herself to be slowed down by a major mistake in the start when her sled slipped out of the inrun lane in the first run. On the 1722 meter long natural ice rink, she always drove at the highest speed and then pushed past the leading Austrian Janine Flock in the second run.

In the end, the three-time WSV Königssee world champion had 0.32 seconds ahead of World Cup leader Flock after a track record of 1: 10.06 minutes. Third was the Olympic runner-up Jacqueline Lölling from RSG Hochsauerland ahead of Hannah Neise from Winterberg.

“At first I was angry with myself because I couldn’t explain the mistake properly. But I said to myself: keep calm. In the second run I only thought I was going to attack, ”said Hermann, who after a second and two third places was finally at the top of the podium this winter.

Gassner prevails

For the first time ever in the World Cup, Alexander Gassner won. The Winterberger prevailed with a hundredth of a second ahead of the Latvian Martins Dukurs, who has won four races this winter. Gassner, who was still in second place after the first run, drove a flawless line in the second run and caught the Latvians. “It was such a difficult race in the snow conditions here, but super exciting. In the second run I tried to get a hell of a height in the horseshoe so that I could take a lot of speed into the lower part. I succeeded really well. I’m just happy, ”Gassner stammered with happiness.

Third place went to the South Korean Olympic champion Yun Sungbin. World champion Christopher Grotheer from BRC Thuringia came in sixth ahead of junior world champion Felix Keisinger from WSV Königssee. The only natural ice rink in the world is rebuilt every year by a team of specialists from 10,000 cubic meters of snow and 5000 cubic meters of water in just three weeks at the end of November. Therefore there are no track records, only season best times.
